This is one of those animes that will make you love this form of animated media all over again.
GENRE:-
Music, Slice of life, and Romance all draped in a shoujo manga melody.
EPISODE COUNT:-
A total of 26 episodes is divided into two seasons with 13 episodes each.
THE STORY:-
So this anime has several characters with each one having their backstory which has been delved quite deep into throughout the anime.
The anime starts with the backstory of the koto club president Takezo Kurata a high school junior and how his only hopes of saving the dying club rely on his performance in the multi-club presentation for the freshmen.
The first to join the club is the former delinquent Chika Kudo who was also the prime suspect in the assault of his grandfather, though it is more or less clear he was falsely accused, the ghosts of his past continue to haunt him. He also helps in driving out the philistine students who made the koto clubroom their hideout and made the whole room a mess, a series of incidents follow wherein Kurata and Takezo end up gaining a sense of mutual respect and understanding.
The next to join the club is the koto genius Satowa Hozuki, who at first has an attitude that would come off to others as being high and mighty but throughout the story, she mellows down.
Next to join are Chika's three friends Saneyasu Adachi, Michitaka Sakai, Kota Mizuhara
who have been with him since middle school(their backgrounds are explicated in the second season).
The final character to join the club in the anime is Hiro Kurusu who at first tries to create an internal rift between the members but later turns into an unreplaceable member of the group.
We also have two club instructors Akira Dojima and Suzuka Takinami each of them having their unique attributes.
CONCLUSION:-
This is a must-watch anime in the slice of life genre, it clearly explains how much effort and determination is required to make a high school level classical music club going.
From the methods of introducing beginners to instrumental music to forming melodies that synchronise with both the masterful players and the complete novices such that the flavour of the entire group as a whole comes off as nothing less than succulent, this anime has it all.
To top all these it also has done a great job in beautifully portraying the relationships be it adolescent friendships, love, or vindictiveness between the vast multitude of characters that appear in the anime.
Also, lest I forget, it has been animated and sound engineered to perfection.
A solid 9/10 from my side.
